Tucked away from the chaos of the crowd, the APSARAKONDA Waterfall - a hidden gem located at Honnavar, Uttara Kannada is one among the least explored places in Karnataka. It is situated at almost 470 kilometers from Bangalore city. It serves as a perfect destination spot for all nature lovers.

The name APSARAKONDA translates to "Ponds of Angels", is believed that it is a chosen place for angels to take bath. The scenic mesmerizing location of the waterfall is situated near the Western coast of Karnataka and has a pristine beach in its vicinity apart from a tall hill and a lovely pond. The caves are also known as the "Pandava caves". It is said that the Pandavas had stayed in the caves during their period of exile. There are a few temples located near the waterfall.


The waterfall descends from 50 feet height wherein the water flows down through the roots of a peepal tree to the crystal clear pond below, at the ground level which then flows down to the Arabian Sea. The waterfall is located between the natural caves hidden from a plain sight by an old tree. The place is as famous for the sparkling waterfall as for the sunset view from the top of the hill. The scenic sight is such a captivating view to observe the sun set over the horizon with a vast stretch of sun - rays beyond the Arabian Sea.

The base of the waterfall can be reached by climbing down a trail of a few hundred feet. The Tourist department has maintained a well - established trail throughout the path to reach the waterfall. It is ideal for trekkers who prefer to enjoy a trail without much difficulty. The Tourism Department has beautified the place to increase its attraction and to make it easier for people to reach down to the waterfall. Visitors would love to explore such a mesmerizing scenic view of nature.


The Pond is completely safe, has no depth. The crystal clear water attracts people to enter the pond and have relaxed bath. Surrounded by the woods, the calm atmosphere of the place and the natural beauty of the falls serves as the perfect balm for frayed nerves and eyes.

The best time to visit the waterfall is during the monsoon season (June - October). The volume of water flowing down the falls is at its highest at that time. However, visitors may have to endure rains while trekking to the falls. The rocks become slippery in the rain and hence caution must be exercised. Also, the weather at that time is hot as the waterfall lies in the coastal belt of Karnataka. The non-Monsoon season (October to February), the volume of water flow decreases to an extent, the pleasant weather enhances the charm of the visit and the trek.


* Eco Beach

Just 20 km away from the famous Murudeshwara Temple, Eco Beach is one of the “Blue Flag’ certified beaches in India. Earlier known as Kasargod Beach, Eco beach is one of the most virgin, pristine and serene beaches in the whole coastal belt. The beach is a perfect spot for the family with children - has children's park, refreshments, clean washrooms and other aminieties. The kids can enjoy various activities like a jungle gym, swings, play area, eating joints.

* Kodlamane Shree Vishnumurthy Temple

The Kodlamane Shree Vishnumurthy Temple is one of the hidden and unexplored gems of Karnataka, dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple is one of the Hindu pilgrimages which is also considered a Thirth Kshetra in Honnavar taluka of the Uttar Kannada district of Karnataka. The temple was believed to have been discovered in dense forests centuries ago.The temple can be reached after a short trek crossing the serene nature paths and trails for its astounding Vedic Hindu architecture, the Garuda Stambha or pillar at the main gate which cannot be missed.

* The Basavaraj Durga Island

The ancient temple is believed to be constructed during 16th century and is one among the not to be missed spot located in Honnavar. The temple is situated at 7kms distance from the city and it is located between the Arabian sea which can be reached via boat only by crossing River Sharavathi. The boat charges is around Rs.15/- for adults and Rs.10/- for kids.

* The Kandla Mangrove Boardwalk

Also known as Kandla Vana a Mangrove Boardwalk is one of the latest tourist attractions in Honnavar and is an ideal place to explore and spend time in the lap of nature. Mangrove Boardwalk has located approximately 3 kms from Honnavar just opposite to Eco beach. The sign boards mentioning the fauna and flora in the region educate the visitors about the mangroves.
