Kudremukh, the Most beautiful Trekking spot in the State of Karnataka.

Do you wonder, Why is the name Strange?

The name KUDREMUKH means "Face of a Horse" in Kannada, as the mountain resembles the distinct shape of a horse. Kudremukh is located at the heart of Western ghats in Chikkamangaluru district.

Kudremukh is the 3rd highest peak in Karnataka after Mullayangiri and Budangiri. It is situated at an altitude of 6,207 ft.

1) The Kudremukh trek is about 5 kms starts from Mullodi village and it will take around 2 hours to reach the peak. The trek starts from the forest office at 8am.

2) The trekkers have to pass through the Somawathi falls along the forest trial and cross the stream.

Tips : Apply salvon or Dettol inorder to avoid leeches.

3) Over the journey of trek, there is quietly huge waterfalls and small streams. As soon as we exit the forest, the spot is surrounded by a wide canopy of grassland.

4) From then, the trial is flat with the kudremukh valley on left. Then after 20 mins of gradual trek the trail starts to get steeper and the Kudremukh valley becomes more visible.

5) The final stretch is around 1km, it will take 30 mins to reach the Kudremukh valley.

The view and the Climate is so mesmerizing that we will not be able to take sight off the greenery around us! It is a perfect adventure trek to explore.

Kudremukh is also called the "GHOST TOWN". It was the hub of iron ore mining for over 30 years. The years and years of mining had caused a vast damage to the eco-system and the forest itself. People have evacuated form the town and moved to other places. So the city looked like a Ghost and so it is called. In late 90's the mining came to an end and now it was one among the most beautiful place to explore in the Western Ghats.

Over the years of evacuation, nature had taken over the entire town and now it has become the beautiful trekking place with variety of florea and fauna species in the entire state of Karnataka.

It was an amazing travel experience throughout the trek. It will give the feel that you walk through the nature and it serves as a getaway spot from the bangalore city.


1) Bird Watching - During the monsoon season, more than 200 species of birds of birds like Malabar trogan, Malabar thrush, Imperial pigeon and hornbill. If you are a bird lover, Kudremukh is your spot!

2) Waterfalls - You can enjoy the water cascading down the rocks through the green valleys, trees giving you a mesmerizing view of nature on your kudremukh trek path.

3) Spotting Wildlife - Various wildlife such as leopard, Giant flying Squirrel, Gaur, Sambar, Mangoose, Wild dog, Spotted deer are spotted rarely through the trek path.


The entry fee to visit Kudremukh National park is INR 200 for Indians and INR 1000 for Foreign tourists.

Timing to Visit - The trekking timings are from 6 am to 5 pm.
